Super Moon

Tonight, March 19th, the "super moon" rose up out of the Atlantic.  At its peak, the moon was supposed to be 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than your "average" moon.  It has not been this big for 20 years!  We were on the beach in Sandbridge where it was FREEZING so we did not wait around to see it peak.  However, we did see some very nice colors as the moon first began to rise!  [click on the image to "super" size it]

Sunrise - March 19, 2011

While walking Doolin this morning I came across this sunrise!  I really liked the photo of the trees.  It reminds me of fall, but I was standing with my back facing the sunrise.

Sunrise - January 27th

Artificial Glitter Path

A "Glitter Path" occurs as the sun, or some other source of light, is reflected across a body of water. Ripples and waves upon the water cause the reflection to become distorted and elongated. Other objects can also reflect the sun's image and continue the path, as in this photograph.

In this photo, taken from my cell phone, the setting sun is first reflected off the glass windows of a building located along the eastern bank of the Elizabeth River in Norfolk, Virginia. You can see a small bit of a glitter path reflected in the river just below the building. The reflection is then continued across the open mini blinds in a window of the Naval Hospital which is located on the west bank of the river in Portsmouth, Virginia.
